The SCL Health Montana Mission Fund at the Montana Community Foundation (MCF) has announced a $100,000 grant to United Way of Yellowstone County to support Off The Streets, a COVID-19 isolation and low-barrier shelter in downtown Billings. Tyler Wiltgen, St. Vincent Healthcare Foundation Director, and MCF President & CEO, Mary Rutherford, presented the check to United Way of Yellowstone County on November 13.

Off the Streets opened in 2020 to meet the pandemic emergency and was set up by the Yellowstone County Continuum of Care, a coalition of local social services and health care organizations working to address homelessness in the community.

The shelter is located in the former Western Inn on Second Avenue North and provides a low-barrier shelter and quarantine site to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The mission of the Yellowstone County Continuum of Care is to create sustainable pathways to safe and stable housing for people who are at risk of or are actually experiencing homelessness.

The SCL Health Montana Mission Fund was established at MCF by SCL Health in 2019. Since its inception, SCL Health has granted a total of $1.9 million from the fund to support organizations working to improve community health by improving access to health services, enhancing public health, advancing knowledge through education or research, or relieving government burden for health.
